As you have probably already found out, my name is Ryan Heinrichs and I am an Interactive Media Specialist.
Media has always played such a pivotal role in modern North American society. With each passing year, with technologic advances it becomes more and more powerful. The most notable advancement has been that of the World Wide Web. It was when I came to this realization that I saw a bright future in becoming a media developer.
In 2003 I applied to the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology's
Digital and Interactive Media Design course. A course that is very select on how many applicants it accepts during the school year. For the next 11 months I spent countless hours working with industry professionals to develop a solid understanding of all major concepts in areas such as flash development, graphic design, video production, 3D animation, and business application.
While I enjoyed all areas, one area I excelled in was the application of graphic design and programming to building websites and web-based applications. I thoroughly enjoyed expanding my knowledge in areas such as:
(x)HTML, DHTML, CSS, PHP, JavaScript, and Ajax. The final stage of the course involved a 2 month job placement with a company within the industry. While searching for a place of employment I was fortunate enough to come across Strathcom Media.
Strathcom Media is an Information Technology Company that develops, markets, implements, and supports its own line of customized automotive software products, specifically designed for the North American Automotive Industry. Spending my job placement there gave me tons of valuable industry experience. As I was able to work hands on with many high profile projects, and get a solid grasp on developer/client relations.
Upon completion of my practicum I was hired on full time as Graphic/Web Designer. I spent the next
4 years working for Strathcom Media, gaining valuable industry experience and really expanding on my skills by leaps and bounds. I have had the opportunity to work with such high profile clients as Globe and Mail, CTV and Honda/Acura of Canada. Aside from that I have done dozens of websites for car dealerships across Canada, as well as several non-dealership websites. Some of which can be viewed in the
web creation portion of my portfolio.
I recently moved from my home in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada to the great state of Washington to get married in January of 2009. I am now looking for new opportunities and new challenges to expand my knowledge and use some of my past experiences to benefit a future employer. Whether it be small businesses or major corporations, I am able to offer a unique and personal experience to companies of all shapes and sizes.
The wonderful thing about technology and the internet is that it is forever expanding and growing. As a developer I feel it is my responsibility to expand and grow with it. I find my work extremely rewarding and look forward to what the future has in store for me!
